Vehicle Air Conditioning
Automotive Air-Conditioning
Making sure your car air conditioning is properly functioning is essential during the long hot Aussie summer. Don’t wait until your AC system breaks down. Book your air conditioning service with Chandos Auto’s.
We are licensed automotive air-conditioning specialists with over 15 years’ experience. Based in Cheltenham, we offer our vehicle repairs and servicing across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs including Beaumaris, Black Rock, Highett, Sandringham and other surrounding suburbs.
We offer a range of air-conditioning services, including re-gassing, repairing and conversions for all makes and models at highly competitive prices. We repair or supply and fit compressors, condensers, receiver-driers (or accumulators) and TX valves.
Air Conditioning Conversion and Repair
In 1989, the Australian Government restricted the use of refrigerant R12 under the Ozone Protection Act. R12 needed to be replaced with the environmentally friendly R134a gas. Because R134a is a restricted substance under new Commonwealth legislation, only trained and licensed technicians can purchase, handle and sell it. Chandos Auto’s we have the necessary licenses, technical expertise and equipment to handle R134a.
We strongly recommend R12 to R134a conversions (or retrofits) for older vehicles that still use R12 gas.
We can also quickly and efficiently diagnose faulty or leaking air conditioning systems to minimise environmental effects. We routinely use Fluoro-Check glo-dye in R134a gas to detect leaks and protect the environment.
We also supply Solpower SP-Auto, the latest improvement in automotive air-conditioning gases. SP-Auto contains the standard R134a, UV leak detector dye and additional performance enhancers that allow the gas to last longer and cool your car faster. SP-Auto is ideal for high ambient temperature environments, like Australia. SP-Auto is compatible with all air conditioning systems designed to use R134a.
We recommend that whenever any part of the air conditioning system is replaced or repaired, the receiver-drier or accumulator should be replaced to prevent corrosion and moisture in the system. This happens when moisture combines with the refrigerant to form hydrochloric acid, which is extremely corrosive to metal components and can damage other parts of the system.
Trust the experts at Chandos Auto’s to check and re-gas your car’s air conditioning, so you can stay cool every summer without adversely affecting the environment.
Air Conditioning Service: When and Why
Whilst modern car air conditioning systems are both efficient and reliable, it is a mechanical system and requires periodic servicing and maintenance in order to perform effectively. Vehicle manufacturers recommend an annual air conditioning service to maintain the efficiency of the system and ensure it continues to run reliably.
Most car owners do not appreciate that if an air conditioning system is not correctly maintained on a regular basis, there is a risk of system damage or even a complete system breakdown.
Air conditioning systems contain potentially harmful CFC or HFC gases kept under high pressures. Exposure to the refrigerant can cause cold burns and even blindness.
The only safe way to maintain your system is with an annual service from a licensed air-conditioning technician. Chandos Auto’s is fully equipped with the latest state-of-the-art AC maintenance equipment and our technicians have undergone extensive specialised training.
